Commissioned by Northumbrian Water to complete an Intrusive Site Investigation and Working Platform Design on Network Rail land.

intrusive site investigationNorthpoint was appointed by Advanced Engineering Solutions on behalf of Northumbrian Water Limited to complete an intrusive site investigation and working platform design for the Fontburn condition assessment. Our rail certified RISQS engineers project managed the investigation process. On completion, we prepared a geotechnical assessment.

The condition assessment is part of a larger scheme to maintain Northumbrian Water apparatus across the North East region. The Fontburn twin main is an overbridge asset on Network Rail land in Seaton Delaval. Firstly, we conducted a site walkover prior to completing the works. Consequently, we recorded poor access onto the investigation area. As a result, we appropriately select investigation methods.

Because of the confined access and uneven ground, we utilised a specialist modular drilling rig. This method included a normal drilling rig placed onto a carefully fixed frame platform. As a result of completing the investigation, we encountered variable Made Ground. These sit above weak soil conditions at the proposed platform location.

We partner with a variety of subcontractors to deal with any sites restrictions. Above all, our geotechnical engineering team apply their experience to complete platform designs to Network Rail and Northumbrian Water requirements. The platform design considered the problematic ground conditions and the adjacent live rail line. Providing a safe and economical solution for the client.
